It’s the Weekend!

This week in review…

1.  She wanted to sleep in her own bed.  It lasted 1 night.  I don’t mind.  Nothing beats a sleeping child.  Love her.

2.  My 7 a.m. routine of 3 miles and catching up on reading.

3.  Cherry season is in full swing and it really puts a smile on my face :-)

4.  My go-to breakfast…a good ol’ bowl of bran flakes.  The hubby calls it cardboard…he doesn’t know good fiber when he sees it ;-)

5.  Cleaning out the file cabinet and having a shred party.

Hmmm…seems like a lot of this is food-related.  I’m not surprised :-)  Happy Friday and Memorial weekend!  Remember to honor those service men and women who have given their lives for us – true meaning of Memorial Day!

Linking up with Lauren.

Consistency and Confessions

For the past several nights, the kids have been waking up at 2am and 5am…not cool.  I haven’t figured out why the 2am, but the 5am is because the sun is coming up and apparently my children have inherited their father’s gene about only being able to sleep in pitch black.  I’m annoyed.  We have blackout curtains, blackened screens, the whole nine really.  BUT if even the littlest amount of light shines in, they wake up.  I have a feeling this is some sort of training program for me when baby #3 joins us in just 4 short months ;)  At least they’re consistent with 2am and 5am.

I confess, I ate a chicken sandwich from unsaid restaurant at 9:30pm last night.  It was a craving.  I caved.  I should really learn to get over it, but instead I dwell over the thought of those extra calories (all 470)…and not healthy calories either.  Oh well, let it go Lisa…let it go.  I will live, life will go on, I know.  It gets kinda silly in that head of mine sometimes.  Instead of taking the day off the treadmill, I got on and did my usual 3 miles.  I also chose to eat oatmeal for breakfast.  See?  All is turning around already.  (Like this little pep talk I give to myself?)  And besides, I chase around 2 monkeys all day and today is going to be a whip-this-place-into-shape kinda day, so that helps too.  I’m sure that sandwich had something to do with it being fuel for me to have the energy to get up both those times in the middle of the night.  Am I still talking about this?!

Oh and on another note, I think I have to convince myself to get Lasik after I’m done having babies.  It’s hard getting up in the middle of the night and not being able to see what you’re doing.  Sure, I could reach for my glasses and put those on, but then I get this thought of “if I can see better, it will probably take me longer to fall back asleep…so I best not put them on”.  Does anyone else do this?

Happy Hump Day!  (Sorry for the poor quality phone pics…it happens :-) )

Updates to the Master Bathroom

I’ve never been satisfied with our master bedroom.  When we first moved in (6+ years ago), I liked how the previous owner painted using 2 different colors.  I thought it gave the room some depth and a nice accent wall was the “in” thing.  Well, I guess I’ve grown up and my taste has changed.  I am no longer a fan of all the brown in this room.  The bathroom walls were a deep, chocolate brown and every time I went into that room it felt like the walls were closing in on me.  It was just too dark for that closed in space with only a tiny window in the shower area.  I’m also over the deep red color in the shower curtain.

This is the right side of the vanity near the linen closet.  (Apologies for the dark photo.)

I have dreaded the oak-grade cabinets since day 1.  I also think it’s time to get rid of the 2-tone faucets and unframed mirror.

I present to you, the AFTER:

This picture is reversed because the only way to get the entire vanity with mirror in the pic was to take a picture in the walk-in closet mirror.  You get the idea though.

I found several tutorials online on how to build a frame for a giant mirror and had my handsome husband built it.  I’m lucky :)

The vanity was super easy to tackle.  I was, of course, nervous at first because I’d never painted cabinets before, so I didn’t want to screw it up.  Seriously, easier than painting walls.  Nothing to it really.  I took the doors off of the vanity and sanded those, along with the vanity.  Then I put a coat of latex primer (tinted to match the paint) on.  After recommended drying time, I used a foam roller to put 2 coats of latex paint on.  After each coat of paint (and primer), I sanded gently to get rid of any flaws.  I am really impressed by the coverage and how well the paint went on.

*NOTE:  Always hold your paint swatch up to where you plan to paint because that is the lighting you will see it in.  I chose to paint the cabinet doors in the garage and boy did I not like the paint color at all.  I was extremely nervous and thought I had screwed up, but it was just a difference in lighting.

I’m loving the dark vanity against the white walls.  It really opens up the space in this room and makes it more serene.

I thought I’d include this fun pic.  After I’d painted the walls and vanity, I noticed a couple of bugs down in the corner by the bathtub.  I mentioned it to my husband and after further investigating, we had water damage to the floor right by the bathtub.  Not.Impressed.At.All.  Luckily, we only had to rip up one row of tiles and take care of the bugs, and then put in new floor boards.  I’m so glad I have a handy husband to fix this because hiring it out would have been spendy.

All in all, when you don’t have a lot of $$$ to spend, but want to update a room, paint and wood are some cheap ways to revamp.  The most expensive part of this update was the faucets.  I ordered them online from a cheaper source though, so I highly recommend checking that out before heading to the local hardware store because they can be costly.

Here’s to a Happy Monday!
