Laundry Room Makeover

Happy Friday Eve everyone!  I’ll just get right into it.  I’m a tad excited to show my laundry room makeover – yippeeeeeeeeee! IMG_1996

We moved into our current home almost three years ago and this was the status of our laundry room.  Obviously, we added a washer/dryer since then, but not much else had changed.  Then, last September, I bought a gallon of paint to get started on the makeover.  It sat there on the floor for 7 months before I finally got around to painting it last month.  What can I say?  I get this done real quick around here!  ;-)  Are you ready to see the makeover?

Tada!  Ain’t it perdy?  I could’ve posted pics about 2 weeks ago, but I didn’t have a green wreath for the wall yet.

There’s the wreath.  See…you wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much if I didn’t have the wreath.  Ok, I’ll stop talking and let you enjoy some pics.  :-)

I made this sign five years ago and had it hanging at our previous house.  I still like it.

We just bought raw wood and I added a coat of Minwax walnut stain and then some finishing wax to polish it up a bit.  I just love all of the knots and grain in the wood and really think the dark board contrasts nicely with all of the white in the room.

My hubby is awesome.  He framed that window for me.  It wasn’t the first time he’s done this.  He had practice on the master bathroom window (here).  It looks a billion times better now.  You think he’d mind if I asked him to frame all of our windows?  Just kidding.  I want to stay married, duh.

This is a clothing valet.  I think that’s what it’s called.  It comes in so handy when I have to hang clothes to dry or ones that need ironing.

Those are dryer balls, in case you were wondering.  Use them instead of dryer sheets.  Save the planet.  Save yourself.  Or something like that.

IMG_0663 (853x1280)

Every laundry room should have a darling chandy, no?

We will put new flooring in here before we die someday.  But, for now, a rug does just fine.

I got those cabinets at a garage sale for $25.  I’m cheap thrifty like that.

So, if you’re looking for me, I’ll probably be in here eating Heath bars and drinking red wine folding laundry all of the time now.  Because, let’s face it, pretty rooms make us happy.  Or, at least they do me.  ;-)

What The Quail?!

Happy Friday Eve!  I honestly can’t believe we’re half way through April already.  I’m ready for summer break and so is my school girl.  She loves school, but I think she’s ready for no homework, late nights and fun with family and friends!  I’m ready to have all 3 of my little ones back in the nest during the week.  Ask me a week into break how I feel ;-) .IMG_0013 (1280x853)

Speaking of nests, I spy quail eggs underneath our grill. They usually do this every Spring and I LOVE that I get to show the kids this part of nature.  Unfortunately, this year, the mother quail decided that this is the spot to leave her un-hatching eggs.  Is that what you call them?  I don’t know, but anyway, nothing is happening with these.

Ok, so last Friday, the hubby was going to take our middle kiddo out for a bike ride and ran inside to tell me there was a mama quail and her babies out and about in our yard. Eeeeek!  I ran to get my camera in attempt to get some good pics.  There is the mama and all her babies (10 or 11, I think) under her wings.

IMG_0042 (1280x853)

There they are following the mama and ready to flee from me.  They blend in so well with the sand/rocks, don’t they?

IMG_0046 (1280x853)

Look at the little peeps.  Cuuuuuuute!

Over the river…

And through the woods…

To the neighbor’s house we go.

So, fast forward to tonight, when another neighbor found two baby quail in their garage. They were separated from their clan and unsure of what to do.  They brought them to our backyard because we have no outdoor pets and thought they’d be safer here.  I knew I’d skip right from 3 kids to 5.  I always thought if we tried for a 4th, it’d be twins.  I was right.  Surprise.

IMG_0151 (1280x853)

If this doesn’t scream cuteness, I don’t know what does.

IMG_0152 (1280x853) IMG_0153 (1280x853) IMG_0154 (853x1280)

What’s up my peeps?

IMG_0155 (853x1280)

We were going to put them in our shed with food and water for the night, but they’re just so tiny (1-2 weeks old, maybe?) and we didn’t know if they’d make it through the night.  So, we set up a giant cardboard house with a little heating pad, blanket, crushed food and some water for them in our garage.  I really, really hope they make it through the night.  If they don’t, I might have to take bereavement leave.  I’m kind of attached.  I hope the family of quail are back in our yard tomorrow morning, so we can release these two to them.  Fingers crossed!

Fall Wreath – A Pinterest Fail (My Fault)

Fall-Burlap-Wreath-DIY-Chevron-Orange-Pumpkin

Once upon a time (last week), some friends and I decided to get together and try to make the wreath you see above (click pic for source).  This blogger said that he took her 20 minutes to make it.  I’ve never made a wreath before, but I figured it shouldn’t be that hard.

WOW!  Doesn’t it look amazing?!  I mean, it looks exactly like the example above.  Am I right? No really, look closer.  Give it time, you’ll see it eventually.  Lolz.  It’s just so sad and pathetic-looking.  I ended up spending 4 hours (really only like 2 actual hours of being productive) working on it and I came home with this.  I would not give up though.  To be fair, I didn’t have the right kind of burlap.  After getting the correct supplies, I worked on it over the weekend (about an hour total) and produced a finish product.

_MG_3795 (1280x853)

Much better.  I’m kind of digging it.  A little proud of myself.  It’s not the same as the Pinterest one, but much of the burlap she had was unavailable, so I just kind of made stuff up as I went.  Good ol’ trial and error.  Also, watching a two minute YouTube video did wonders for me.

Don’t be surprised if the next time you see my front door it’s a different color and has a new handle.  I’m in all out remodel mode and nobody can stop me now.

I’ve been ready for Autumn for over a month now.  I could “feel” it in the air.  I don’t do a lot of decorating for Autumn, so it will be this and some random pumpkins around the house. I did spy some cinnamon scented pine cones at the the grocery store that were subtly calling my name.  They’re on my list to pick up this week.  They smell so amazing and I just can’t resist!
